The AfriGnome Project 2010
Introduction:
The first of its kind, the AfriGnome Awareness Project has been designed to delight, intrigue, entertain and educate.
We have received six beautiful AfriGnomes from the generous and talented artists, Rick Deleny and Zoe Charlton, for the important task of traveling the word to spread the message of the importance of clean water in areas of Africa that have none. Moja, Jambo, Kwaheri, Pilipili, Majo and Asante have very important things to say about how Well Aware is constructing water wells in rural Kenya to alleviate the suffering there and how others can help.
Each Afrignome has been prepping for their journey and is ready to venture from Austin, Texas through the adoption of generous and capable “Adoptive Parents” to anywhere on the globe for the next SIX MONTHS. Each new Adoptive Parent has the responsibility of taking nurturing care of their AfriGnome during the time that they are in their possession, as well as providing for him the proper exposure he needs to deliver his message. The AfriGnomes must remain in circulation so that more people can learn of their mission, so Adoptive Parents relinquish their mini-crusaders to the next capable Adopter within ten days.
The AfriGnomes have created their own website (they are quite industrious), so that Adoptive Parent can post pictures and stories of their time with their Gnome babies for the world to see their progress and adventures! Here, we will also be connecting parents with new adoptions if assistance is needed, as well as keeping our audience informed of all AfriGnome events and updates.
On October 31st, 2010, we will recall all of our AfriGnomes for a celebration and special event!
We cordially invite you to be a part of our awareness experiment and help us reach as many people as we can by adopting, becoming a sponsor, spreading the word, donating to the cause, or simply keeping up with the project! We, and tens of thousands of Africans in dire need, appreciate your attention and action!
Launch:
** Join us for our AfriGnome Launch Party at Kung Fu Saloon in Austin, on Saturday, May 1st, from 7-9pm! Facebook invite here.**
Adoption:
If you want to adopt an AfriGnome:
Many of the Adoptive Parents are finding friends or acquaintances to whom they can pass on their AfriGnomes for the next leg of their adventures. If you know someone who has one of our little soldiers, you can let that person know that you would like to be the next parent. Since the AfriGnomes are very popular, offering the highest adoption fee will help you be a front runner for the next adoption (and will go toward out next water well!).
If you don’t know anyone who already has an AfriGnome, we have an Adoption Registry for our AfriGnome Waiting List that you can quickly fill out to have your name places instantly in the queue for an AfriGnome. We can’t guarantee that everyone who applies will receive an AfriGnome, but we will do our absolute best to see that everyone who wants one will, by golly, get one!
If you are on our waiting list, we will contact you as soon as an AfriGnome becomes available, and you and the previos Adoptive Parent will arrange for delivery or shipment to you (we can assist with this, also) as soon as you have submitted your adoption fee via our Adoption Fee Email which will be generated and sent to you. We ask that you please be generous with your adoption fee amount (minimum $25), since everything we receive will help us provide clean drinking water to those who have none.
If you have an AfriGnome who needs a new home:
If you are ready to reluctantly pass on your new friend to his next capable parent, you may chose a friend, family member or acquaintance that you think will take proper care of the AfriGnome and provide for him the exposure he needs to adequately pass along his message. If you do so, please make sure the next parent pays his or her adoption fee prior to taking the little guy. It will be your responsibility to send us the new Parent’s contact information so that we can send them our Adoption Fee Email, through which they can easily pay their fee and be ready to gnome it up! We would very much appreciate your encouraging a good amount paid (minimum of $25), so that we can construct our next well more quickly!
If you do not know someone who would like to take the next shift, we are here to facilitate his transition. Just let us know that you need us to place your AfriGnome by sending us an email at info@afrignome.org, and we will quickly set you up with an eager new Parent from our waiting list! You will be responsible for shipping costs (about $5) if he needs to travel far from you, and we will make sure the new Parent has paid his or her adoption fee.
Once you have sent your beloved AfriGnome on to his next home, we will send you something special in the mail!
PROJECT RULES & GUIDELINES
Congratulations! You are now, or soon will be, the proud and generous Adoptive Parent of an AfriGnome. These guys are on an important mission to spread the message about the dire importance of clean water in rural Kenya. So, it is now your duty and obligation to ensure that their journeys are safe and effective!
Having Your AfriGnome:
- Upon receipt of your little crusader, you are encouraged and entitled to enjoy his company and hear his mission.
- Please contact us as soon as the AfriGnome is in your hands so that we can keep up with his global location at info@wellawareworld.org.
- The AfriGnomes get lonely (and subsequently fussy), so it is in your best interest to allow your new friend to accompany you everywhere you go.
- Your AfriGnome can most effectively relay his important message when he is around people, so you are urged to introduce him to your friends, family and colleagues.
- As an Adoptive parent, you have committed to helping your AfriGnome with his cause. So please send pictures of his time with you, as well as any great stories, to info@wellawareworld.org as soon as you can.
- Please post any activity and comments about your experience to our website in your AfriGnomes webpage blog.
Sending Your AfriGnome On:
- While we fully understand the attachment you will develop to your AfriGnome, they must continue on their journey after 10 days in your loving care. Failure to so may result in actions taken by Gnome Protective Services (please see GPS info for details).
- Please inform the next Adpotive parent, if you have chosen the new “owner”, that you have selected as his next destination is aware that the adoption fee for receipt of him is a minimum of $25, but the higher the fee, the more effective the AfriGnomes can be at helping to alleviate the suffering in Kenya (please see adoption details for more on this step).
- You are responsible for getting your beloved AfriGnome into the hands of, or into the mail for transit to, his next caretaker. Handing your AfriGnome off is ideal, but you can also ship him in properly insulated packaging that has been provided for you.
Disclaimers:
Please know that possession of an AfriGnome may cause unexplained charitable fervor and unusual feelings of goodwill and purpose. In the event that these emotions need to be acted upon, please donate here or visit our website to donate. www.wellawareworld.org
Do not gaze at or admire your AfriGnome while operating heavy machinery.
If a sudden compellation arises to abscond with your AfriGnome, and prevent him from continuing his journey, please seek help immediately from a friend or loved one, or contact Gnome Protective Services for counsel at info@afrignome.org
Never, under any circumstances, feed your AfriGnome after midnight.
The Gnome Protective Services (GPS) is a division of the World Gnome Health and Safety Department and exists to oversee the safety and success of the Afrignome Awareness Project (AAP) by Well Aware. The mission of GPS is to protect AfriGnomes who have been or are at substantial risk of neglect, hoarding, improper or lewd positioning, AAP rule infringement, loss in bars or coffee shops, unauthorized breeding or otherwise reproducing, prolonged exposure to Japanese cartoons, tattooing or other Gnome body altering and/or any other un-Gnomely like treatment.
In the event that GPS is informed of Gnome Adoptive Parent misconduct, an investigation will take place. Upon confirmation of said misconduct, GPS reserves to right to send incessant and irritating emails, express mild and ambiguous disappointment on the AAP website and/or send a fictitious GPS representative to your home to investigate further.
GPS strives to assure that all AfriGnomes have an Adoptive Parents who will protect them from high heat and swimming pools and ensure the prompt and proper delivery of the Gnomes to their next Adoptive Parent’s location in a reasonable amount of time. We require that all AfriGnome Adoptive Parents agree to the guidelines set forth by GPS (see Rules and Guidelines) upon receiving your precious AfriGnome, and vow to spread the message of the AAP mission to an annoying and repetitive degree to anyone who will listen.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the treatment of your AfriGniome or an AfriGnome in the hands of another, please contact us immediately at info@afrignome.org.
Please submit your name here if you are interested in adopting a Gnome.
